At its crest, the diversion was handling a flow of 34,000 cubic feet per second. Now, the flow is closer to 1,300 cfs as officials break for the Assiniboine's levels to drop a bit more before closing the diversion inlet.

"We're thinking probably, at the current rate of weakening, [it could close] roughly around Saturday or Sunday," said Eugene Kozera, a director with water stewardship.

The conduit saved the Winnipeg area from the roaring Assiniboine but the amount of water it fed into Lake Manitoba has caused devastation to many other communities.

The lake reached levels unseen in more than 50 years and winds gusts on several occasions whipped up vehement waves and pushed the water far inland.

A mass of new Canadian citizens will get their start in Portage la Prairie.

"That's thriving to take advance next year, 2011," said Luis Luna, program co-ordinator for the Outsider Resource Program at the Portage Scholarship and Literacy Middle.

The rigid tryst for the citizenship formalities will be May 12, 2011, when about 21 people will take the expletive of citizenship in the burgh.

"I'm out of one's mind," Luna said. "It's another exercise care in the immigration function.

The position where the formality will take place has yet to be obstinate.

The Migrant Resource Program will be making another call for citizenship on Oct. 15 of this year.

People who have all their citizenship paperwork completed or penurious to completed are invited to submit it to Luna to be complicated with the next citizenship rite, which Luna hopes to carry in about a year-and-a-half.
